Description:
The MP5-20F3 antibody reacts with mouse interleukin-6 (IL-6) and functions as a neutralizing antibody. Mouse IL-6 (also known as B Cell Stimulating Factor, BCSF, and BSF-2) is a 21–28 kDa cytokine produced by various cell types including monocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells. Upon stimulation, macrophages, T cells, B cells, mast cells, glial cells, eosinophils, keratinocytes, and granulocytes also secrete IL-6. This cytokine influences antigen-specific immune responses, inflammation, and neuronal development, and is a major mediator of the acute phase reaction.

Applications Reported:
This antibody has been reported for intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Tested by intracellular staining with flow cytometric analysis. Recommended ≤0.5 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell numbers typically range from 10⁵–10⁸ per test. Antibody titration is recommended for optimal performance.

Target Information

IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen inducing fever in autoimmune or infectious conditions. IL-6 is primarily expressed at sites of inflammation and mediates transcriptional inflammatory responses via the IL-6 receptor alpha. Dysregulation of IL-6 is associated with several inflammatory diseases such as diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi sarcoma, and rheumatoid arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels have been observed in viral infections including COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
