Target Information

Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is an immunomodulatory cytokine essential for the proliferation of activated T cells, and differentiation of B cells, NK cells, monocytes, and macrophages. IL-2 signals through the IL-2 receptor (IL-2R), a heterotrimeric complex whose γ-chain is shared with IL-4 and IL-7. Monoallelic expression of the IL-2 gene in mature thymocytes provides precise regulation. Disruption of IL-2–like genes in mice leads to colitis-like disease, underscoring IL-2’s critical role in immune regulation.
