Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibody 20F3 recognizes human Caspase-7, also known as mch3 and ICE-LAP3, a member of the cysteine-requiring aspartate protease family involved in apoptosis. Along with caspases 3 and 7, it functions as an effector or executioner caspase activated by cleavage through caspase-3, -6, -8, or granzyme B.
Caspase-7 mediates the demolition phase of apoptosis by cleaving PARP and other caspase-3 substrates. This antibody detects both full-length (p35) and active (p20) Caspase-7 forms under reducing SDS-PAGE conditions.

Target Information
Caspase-7 belongs to the cysteine protease family, divided into apoptotic and inflammatory subfamilies. While inflammatory caspases are linked to immune responses, apoptotic caspases regulate programmed cell death. Caspase-7 functions as an executioner caspase, activated by initiator caspases, and cleaves cellular substrates leading to apoptosis.
It was identified by homology with caspases 1 and 3, and the C. elegans protein CED-3. Alternative splicing of Caspase-7 mRNA produces three isoforms. Caspase-7 activity can be inhibited by XIAP expression. Diseases associated with CASP7 include Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus 17 and Aleutian Mink Disease.
