This antibody detects endogenous HEXB protein at a molecular weight of approximately 63 kDa.
Purity is greater than 95% by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Hexosaminidase B (HEXB), also designated beta-hexosaminidase B, is a tetramer composed of two β-A and two β-B chains located in lysosomes.
Mutations in the HEXB gene cause Sandhoff disease (GM2-gangliosidosis type II), leading to deficiency in HEXA and HEXB enzyme activity and accumulation of GM2 ganglioside in the brain.
This results in progressive destruction of the central nervous system.
Sandhoff disease is similar to Tay-Sachs disease (HEXA gene mutation) but generally more severe.
