Target Information
DNA topoisomerases are nuclear enzymes that regulate the topological structure of DNA by transiently breaking and rejoining DNA strands.
DNA topoisomerase I and II relax both positive and negative supercoils, whereas DNA topoisomerase III relaxes only negative supercoils.
DNA topoisomerase III alpha exists as long and short isoforms produced by alternative splicing and localizes to the nucleolus.
DNA topoisomerase III beta has three isoforms—beta1, beta2, and beta3—also generated by alternative splicing.
Beta1 is expressed in testes, heart, and skeletal muscle; beta2 in thymus, kidney, and pancreas.
