Target Information
Chromosome 1 is the largest human chromosome, spanning about 260 million base pairs and comprising approximately 8% of the human genome. It contains around 3,000 genes, many of which are associated with various diseases. For example, the LMNA gene is linked to Hutchinson-Gilford progeria, while the MUTYH gene is associated with familial adenomatous polyposis. Other conditions related to chromosome 1 include Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, and Usher syndrome. A breakpoint in 1q disrupts the DISC1 gene and is linked to schizophrenia. Aberrations in chromosome 1 are also found in cancers such as head and neck cancer, malignant melanoma, and multiple myeloma. The KIAA0562 gene product has been provisionally designated KIAA0562 pending further characterization.
