Target Information
The DAZ1 gene is a member of the DAZ gene family and is a candidate for the human Y-chromosomal azoospermia factor. Expression is restricted to premeiotic germ cells, particularly spermatogonia. It encodes an RNA-binding protein essential for spermatogenesis. Four copies of this gene are located on chromosome Y within palindromic duplications (P1 and P2). Each gene contains DAZ repeats and regions encoding RNA recognition motifs (RRM domains). Variation in repeat number and sequence is common. The RefSeq for this gene includes two RRM domains.
