Target Information
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and participate in various cellular signaling pathways. They act as receptors for phorbol esters, known tumor promoters. Each PKC isoform has a distinct expression profile and cellular role, including B cell activation, apoptosis induction, endothelial proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. In mice, this kinase may regulate neuronal functions and stress-related behaviors. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
