Target Information
ASAP1 (Development and differentiation enhancing factor 1) is a protein containing two ANK repeats, an Arf-GAP domain, a PH domain, and a SH3 domain. It forms a homodimer that interacts with SRC and CRK, with activity stimulated by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate (PIP2).
ASAP1 functions as a phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate-dependent GTPase-activating protein for ARF1 and ARF5, with lesser activity toward ARF6. It may coordinate membrane trafficking with cell growth or actin cytoskeleton remodeling by binding to SRC and PIP2.
Additionally, it may act as a signal transduction protein involved in fibroblast differentiation into adipocytes and other cell types. It is widely expressed in most tissues and is considered a proto-oncogene implicated in invasive breast cancer and other malignant tumors such as uveal melanomas.
