Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. These structures compact DNA into chromatin, regulating accessibility for transcription, repair, and replication. Histones play central roles in transcription regulation, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability. H2B also exhibits broad antibacterial activity.
