Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene shares strong similarity with Saccharomyces cerevisiae protein Cdc27 and Schizosaccharomyces pombe nuc 2. It is a component of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), composed of eight protein subunits and highly conserved in eukaryotic cells. APC catalyzes the formation of cyclin B–ubiquitin conjugate responsible for ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis of B-type cyclins.
This protein and three other APC complex members contain the TPR (tetratricopeptide repeat) domain, important for protein-protein interactions. It interacts with mitotic checkpoint proteins including Mad2, p55CDC, and BUBR1, and may play a role in controlling mitosis timing.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
