Target Information
DRP1 (Dynamin-related protein 1) is a human mitochondrial division protein essential for mitochondrial fission in mammalian cells. It plays a key role in maintaining mitochondrial distribution and function, particularly during apoptosis. In mutant neurons, the absence of DRP1 results in mitochondria being largely absent from synapses, providing a genetic tool for studying mitochondrial roles in synaptic function.
