Description:
The monoclonal antibody eBioNL07 recognizes human CD36, a member of the class B scavenger receptor family. CD36 was originally identified as a platelet-membrane glycoprotein (glycoprotein IV) and acts as a receptor for thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) and extracellular matrix proteins. Binding to TSP-1 occurs in the CLESH (CD36 LIMP-II Emp sequence homology) domain.

CD36 expression is broad and includes microvascular endothelium, adipocytes, skeletal muscle, dendritic cells, retinal, breast, and intestinal epithelia, smooth muscle cells, and hematopoietic cells such as erythroid precursors, platelets, monocytes/macrophages, dendritic cells, and megakaryocytes. Expression on platelets is absent in Nak^a negative donors.

Unlike other scavenger receptors, CD36 binds LDL exposed to minimally oxidizing conditions. CD36 also functions as a fatty acid translocase (FAT) necessary for long-chain fatty acid transport and may play a role in atherosclerosis.

This eBioNL07 (NL07) antibody is reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of human peripheral blood cells. Recommended use ≤0.5 µg per test (defined as the antibody amount staining a cell sample in 100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test. Titrate antibody for optimal performance.

Target Information

CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a surface protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, mediating recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells.

CD36 serves as a receptor for thrombospondin in platelets and other cell lines, binding collagen, thrombospondin, anionic phospholipids, and oxidized LDL. It mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.

Diseases associated with CD36 include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
