Product Specific Information
The HIT2 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD38 molecule, an approximately 45 kDa type II transmembrane protein. CD38 is expressed by thymocytes, peripheral B cells (including plasma cells), activated T cells, and monocytes. It acts as a counter-receptor for CD31 and exhibits cyclase and hydrolase enzymatic activity.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis and immunohistochemical staining.
Applications Tested:
- Flow cytometry: ≤1 µg/test (100 µL final volume; 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).
- IHC (formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue): ≤40 µg/mL using low pH antigen retrieval.
Careful titration is recommended for optimal assay performance.

Target Information
CD38 (NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein involved in activation, proliferation, and differentiation of lymphocytes, as well as apoptosis mediation in progenitor cells. It functions as an ectoenzyme with ADP-ribosyl cyclase and cyclic ADP-ribose hydrolase activity, and serves as a surface receptor.
Antibodies to CD38 are useful for:
- Subtyping lymphomas and leukemias
- Detecting plasma cells (e.g., myeloma identification)
- Marking activated B and T cells
CD38 is highly expressed in pancreas, liver, kidney, malignant lymphoma, and neuroblastoma. Dysfunction is associated with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and Richter's Syndrome.
