Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous CYP8B1 protein at a molecular weight of approximately 58 kDa.
Purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
CYP8B1 (sterol 12-alpha-hydroxylase) belongs to the cytochrome P450 superfamily of monooxygenase enzymes, which are involved in the metabolism of a wide array of endogenous and xenobiotic compounds.
CYP8B1 is highly expressed in the liver and plays a key role in bile acid synthesis. It regulates the ratio of cholic acid to chenodeoxycholic acid, thereby influencing cholesterol solubility.
The human CYP8B1 gene is located on chromosome 3p22.1 and encodes a 501-amino acid protein without introns. Its promoter is activated by hepatocyte nuclear factor 4α (HNF4A).
In mice, disruption of the CYP8B1 gene inhibits the synthesis of cholate, a primary bile acid.
