Target Information
Arg3.1 (ARC) is a master regulator of synaptic plasticity that self-assembles into virion-like capsids encapsulating RNAs for intercellular RNA transfer in the nervous system. ARC protein is released from neurons in extracellular vesicles, transferring ARC mRNA into target cells where it undergoes activity-dependent translation. It regulates synaptic plasticity by promoting endocytosis of AMPA receptors in response to synaptic activity, maintaining neuronal homeostasis through synaptic scaling. ARC also mediates activity-dependent synapse elimination in developing cerebellum and is required for long-term potentiation (LTP), long-term depression (LTD), and long-term memory formation. Additionally, ARC interacts with PSEN1 in postsynaptic trafficking of amyloid-beta A4 (APP) and regulates dendritic cell migration and T-cell activation in the immune system.
