Target Information
ATG10 is involved in autophagy, a process for the bulk degradation of cytosolic compartments by lysosomes/vacuoles. The formation of autophagosomes involves a dynamic rearrangement of the membrane, requiring two ubiquitin-like modifications: conjugation of APG12p and modification of MAP-LC3 to a membrane-bound form.
ATG10 acts as an E2-like enzyme essential for autophagosome formation through ATG12–ATG5 conjugation and MAP-LC3 modification. The protein is ubiquitously expressed, and the human APG10L gene is located on chromosome 5q14.2.
