Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular/luminal epitope of CD63 (LAMP-3), a 40–60 kDa tetraspan glycoprotein expressed by granulocytes, platelets, T cells, monocytes/macrophages, and endothelial cells. Cell surface expression of CD63 is typically activation-dependent.
Target Information
CD63 (LAMP-3, lysosome-associated membrane protein-3) is a glycoprotein of the tetraspanin family, localized in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles of various cell types. It can also be found on the plasma membrane following cell activation and serves as a basophil activation marker. CD63 interacts with integrins, influencing phagocytosis and cell migration, and is involved in H/K-ATPase trafficking and ROMK1 channel regulation. It also acts as a T-cell costimulation molecule. CD63 expression can be used to predict prognosis in early-stage carcinomas. It is expressed on activated platelets, monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes, B, and T cells. CD63 is identical to the melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and the platelet antigen PTLGP40. Diseases associated with CD63 dysfunction include melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
