SMAD2 (MADH2, MAD2)는 세포 증식, 세포자멸사, 분화 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여합니다.
이 단백질은 TGF-β 수용체와 상호작용하며, 신호전달 경로에서 핵으로의 이동은 TGF-β 신호의 핵심 단계입니다.
TGF-β 신호에 반응하여 SMAD2는 수용체에 의해 인산화되며, SMAD4와 결합하여 핵으로 이동해 전사 억제 복합체를 형성합니다.
또한 activin type 1 receptor kinase에 의해 인산화될 수 있으며, activin 신호를 매개합니다.
대체 스플라이싱된 전사 변이체도 보고되었습니다.
