Target Information
The ABL1 proto-oncogene encodes a cytoplasmic and nuclear protein tyrosine kinase involved in cell differentiation, division, adhesion, and stress response.
Activity of c-Abl protein is negatively regulated by its SH3 domain; deletion of this domain converts c-Abl into an oncogene.
In chronic myelogenous leukemia and some acute lymphoblastic leukemias, c-Abl undergoes a (9;22) translocation forming the Philadelphia chromosome, fusing c-Abl sequences from chromosome 9 with the Bcr gene on chromosome 22.
c-Abl may regulate DNA repair by activating proapoptotic pathways when DNA damage is irreparable.
