Target Information
The Forkhead-box (FOX) genes comprise a superfamily of at least 43 members encoding proteins involved in transcriptional regulation and potentially in the pathogenesis of various cancers.
FOXB1 (forkhead box B1) and FOXB2 (forkhead box B2) belong to this family and each contains a forkhead DNA-binding domain. Both localize to the nucleus and function as transcription factors that bind DNA via their forkhead domains.
In mice, defects in the FOXB1 gene are associated with delayed development of the central nervous system (CNS), suggesting a role in CNS organization and function.
