Product Specific Information

The TW7-16B4 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse latency associated peptide (LAP, pro-TGF beta 1, LAP/TGF beta 1). TGF beta is synthesized as a precursor containing LAP at the N-terminus and mature TGF beta at the C-terminus. Cleavage between amino acids 278 and 279 forms LAP and TGF beta dimers, which associate to form the small latent TGF beta complex. LAP is secreted and found in the extracellular matrix, and is also expressed on platelets and activated regulatory T cells due to binding with GARP (LRRC32).

Target Information

TGF beta-1 is a cytokine of the transforming growth factor beta superfamily, widely expressed in tissues. It exists as a latent complex with its prodomain in the extracellular matrix. Activation requires αV integrin binding to an RGD sequence and mechanical force, releasing active TGF-beta from the latent complex. The latent form includes TGF-beta, its aminoterminal portion (LAP), and a latent TGF-beta binding protein (LTBP).
