Target Information

Catenin alpha-1 associates with the cytoplasmic domain of various cadherins. The catenin-cadherin complex links to the actin filament network, playing a key role in cell adhesion. It can associate with both E- and N-cadherins. While previously thought to mediate direct linkage to F-actin, newer evidence suggests CTNNA1 does not bind F-actin in the complex, indicating a distinct mechanism of actin interaction. The homodimeric form may regulate actin filament assembly and inhibit branching by competing with the Arp2/3 complex. It is crucial in cell differentiation.
