Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from substrate proteins. This activity stabilizes target proteins by preventing their degradation. USP7 is known to antagonize Mdm2, the E3 ubiquitin ligase for the tumor suppressor p53, thus protecting p53 from degradation. It may play a tumor suppressor role by stabilizing p53 in response to stress. USP7 also participates in oncogenic pathways involving Myc and E1A, potentially providing an alternative mechanism for p53 activation independent of ARF.
