Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from substrate proteins. As ubiquitylation is linked to protein stability and degradation, HAUSP activity stabilizes its substrates. It acts as an antagonist of Mdm2, the E3 ubiquitin ligase for p53, thereby stabilizing p53 under stress conditions. HAUSP may function as a tumor suppressor by protecting p53 from degradation and plays roles in oncogenic signaling pathways involving Myc and E1A.
