Product Specific Information
- In direct ELISAs and Western blots, approximately 10% cross-reactivity with recombinant human (rh) Cystatin C, rhCystatin SN, and rhCystatin S is observed.
- Less than 1% cross-reactivity with rhCystatin E/M and rhFetuin A is observed.
- Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
Target Information
The cystatin superfamily encompasses proteins containing multiple cystatin-like sequences. Some members act as active cysteine protease inhibitors, while others have lost this inhibitory activity.
There are three inhibitory families in the superfamily: type 1 cystatins (stefins), type 2 cystatins, and kininogens.
Type 2 cystatins are cysteine proteinase inhibitors found in various human fluids and secretions. The cystatin locus on chromosome 20 contains most type 2 cystatin genes and pseudogenes.
This gene encodes a protein found in saliva and tears, potentially providing protection against proteases in the oral cavity.
