Product Specific Information

PA5-16847 targets MUC-1 in IHC (P) applications and shows reactivity with Human and Mouse samples.
The immunogen is a synthetic peptide from the cytoplasmic tail of human MUC-1 protein.

Target Information

MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and certain hematopoietic lineages.
It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large extracellular domain processed through proteolysis and extensive O-linked glycosylation.
MUC1 is highly polymorphic, with alleles encoding 30–90 tandem repeats, resulting in variable molecular weights.
It is abundantly expressed in >90% of breast carcinomas and metastases.
Transgenic MUC1 associates with all four erbB receptors and localizes with EGFR in lactating glands.
Aberrant expression and glycosylation of MUC1 are linked to carcinomas.
Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, though only some full-length forms have been characterized.
