SLC25A20은 미토콘드리아 막 운반 단백질 중 하나로, 세포질과 미토콘드리아 기질 사이에서 기질을 운반합니다. 이 단백질은 아실카르니틴을 미토콘드리아 기질로 운반하여 지방산 산화 경로에서 산화될 수 있도록 합니다.
해당 유전자의 변이는 carnitine-acylcarnitine translocase 결핍증과 연관되어 있으며, 저혈당, 심정지, 간비대, 간 기능 장애, 근육 약화 등의 병리적 상태를 유발할 수 있고 신생아 및 영아에게 치명적일 수 있습니다.
