Target Information
C/EBP alpha regulates gene expression in various tissues including liver, adipose, lung, and intestine. It uses a bipartite structural motif to bind DNA, where two protein chains dimerize through amphipathic alpha helices (leucine zipper). Basic polypeptide regions form DNA contact surfaces.
C/EBP alpha functions in terminally differentiated, growth-arrested cells. Family members include C/EBP beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon, all with similar DNA-binding specificities. C/EBP beta and delta can form heterodimers with each other and with C/EBP alpha.
