Target Information
ADP-ribosylation factor 1 (ARF1) belongs to the human ARF gene family, encoding small guanine nucleotide-binding proteins that stimulate ADP-ribosyltransferase activity of cholera toxin. These proteins play a critical role in vesicular trafficking and act as activators of phospholipase D. The ARF family includes six ARF proteins and eleven ARF-like proteins, all part of the RAS superfamily. ARF proteins are categorized into class I and class III, sharing a common gene organization. ARF1 localizes to the Golgi apparatus and is essential for intra-Golgi transport. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
