Product Specific Information

PA1-26648 detects a band of approximately 14 kDa. Under certain conditions, this antibody may recognize other intrinsic bands (UBLs or their conjugates). These additional bands are readily detectable in yeast lysates at lower antibody dilutions.


Target Information

Ubiquitin-like proteins (UBLs) are categorized into two classes.

  • Class 1: Ubiquitin-like modifiers (UBLs) such as SUMO, Rub1 (Nedd8), Apg8, and Apg12, which function analogously to ubiquitin.
  • Class 2: Ubiquitin-domain proteins (UDPs), including parkin, RAD23, and DSK2, which contain ubiquitin-related domains but are not conjugated to other proteins.

Apg8 is essential for autophagy in yeast, mediating cytoplasmic uptake into vacuoles via autophagic bodies. These form double-membraned autophagosomes that fuse with vacuoles/lysosomes. The process is conserved in mammals, involving two gene sets, APG and AUT, responsible for ubiquitin-like systems Apg12 and Apg8. Apg12 conjugates with Apg5, forming a key complex in autophagy.
