Target Information

TPSB2 is a protein coding gene belonging to the tryptase family (peptidase family S1). Tryptases are active as heparin-stabilized tetramers and resistant to endogenous proteinase inhibitors.
These genes are located on chromosome 16p13.3 and share a highly conserved 3′ UTR with tandem repeat sequences that may regulate mRNA stability.
An intron upstream of the initiator Met codon separates transcription initiation from the coding sequence—a characteristic feature of tryptases.
Allelic variation in this gene led to the historical classification into βII and βIII forms.
Beta tryptases are predominant in mast cells, while alpha tryptases are found mainly in basophils.
Tryptases are implicated in asthma and other allergic or inflammatory disorders.
