Target Information
This gene encodes a protein originally thought to be related to the collagenase gene family. It is one of three highly similar genes located on the p arm of chromosome 16. These genes encode closely related proteins that may have similar functions. The protein encoded by NOMO1 is part of a complex involved in the Nodal signaling pathway during vertebrate development. Mutations in the nearby ABCC6 gene, rather than NOMO1, are associated with pseudoxanthoma elasticum.
