Target Information

The CD3 subunit complex is crucial in transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating TCR complex expression. T cell activation involves the cytoplasmic tails of CD3 gamma, delta, epsilon, and zeta subunits, which are structurally related members of the immunoglobulin superfamily. These subunits associate with cytoplasmic signaling molecules via double tyrosine-based motifs.

CD3 antigens are expressed on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, but not on B or NK cells. Decreased T lymphocyte percentages may be observed in certain autoimmune diseases. The genes encoding CD3 epsilon, gamma, and delta are located on chromosome 11, and defects in CD3 genes are associated with CD3 immunodeficiency.
