Target Information
The 14-3-3 protein family consists of at least seven highly conserved isoforms that form homo- and heterodimers and are abundantly expressed in all eukaryotic cells. These proteins regulate signal transduction by binding to serine-phosphorylated proteins. 14-3-3 interacts with Cdc25C to regulate cell cycle entry and with Bad to inhibit apoptosis. Other binding partners include protein kinase C family members, Cbl, IRS-1, polyoma middle-T antigen, nitrate reductase, S-raf, and IGF-1 receptor. Detection of 14-3-3 proteins in cerebrospinal fluid has diagnostic relevance in Creutzfeldt-Jakob and other prion diseases.
