Target Information

Lecithin retinol acyltransferase (LRAT) is a membrane-bound enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of an acyl group from the sn-1 position of lecithin to vitamin A, generating all-trans-retinyl esters (tREs) in liver, lung, and retinal pigmented epithelium.
LRAT also exchanges palmitoyl groups between RPE65 and tREs, playing a key role in the visual pathway.
It is essential for dietary mobilization, transport, and storage of vitamin A and synthesis of the visual pigment chromophore.
Loss of LRAT correlates with early-onset severe retinal dystrophy, while reduced expression may be associated with invasive bladder cancer.
