This antibody recognizes porcine CD31, also known as Platelet Endothelial Cell Adhesion Molecule (PECAM-1). CD31 is constitutively expressed by platelets, monocytes, and some lymphocytes, with endothelial cells showing expression levels an order of magnitude higher than other cell types.
Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor involved in regulating T cell and B cell signaling through dual immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). Upon phosphorylation by associated kinases, these motifs provide docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases. CD31 is ubiquitously expressed within the vascular compartment, mainly at junctions between adjacent cells. The N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, critical for cell-cell interactions. CD31 plays diverse roles in:
- Integrin-mediated cell adhesion
- Transendothelial migration
- Angiogenesis
- Apoptosis
- Negative regulation of immunoreceptor signaling
- Autoimmunity and macrophage phagocytosis
- IgE-mediated anaphylaxis and thrombosis
