Aldh3A2는 aldehyde dehydrogenase superfamily에 속하는 NAD(P)(+)-의존 효소로, 다양한 지방족 및 방향족 알데하이드의 산화를 촉매합니다. 이 효소는 알코올 대사 및 지질 과산화에 의해 생성된 알데하이드의 해독에 중요한 역할을 하며, 긴 사슬 지방족 알데하이드를 지방산으로 산화시킵니다.
Aldh3A2 유전자의 돌연변이는 Sjogren-Larrson 증후군을 유발하며, 이 질환은 선천성 피부 및 신경계 이상을 특징으로 합니다. 병태생리는 피부 및 뇌막의 지질 축적, 알데하이드-아민 결합 생성, 또는 eicosanoid 대사 이상과 관련이 있습니다.
