Target Information
This gene encodes a member of a family of translation repressor proteins. The protein directly interacts with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), which is crucial for recruiting 40S ribosomal subunits to the 5′ end of mRNAs.
Binding of this protein to eIF4E inhibits complex assembly and represses translation. Phosphorylation in response to signals such as UV irradiation and insulin signaling causes dissociation from eIF4E, thereby activating mRNA translation.
