Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles. Centrifuge if not clear after standing at room temperature. Stable for several weeks at 4°C as undiluted liquid; dilute only before immediate use.

This antibody was heated to 56°C for 30 minutes. It is an IgG preparation of whole rabbit serum purified by DEAE fractionation. The antibody is primarily directed against mature 17 kDa mouse IL-1β and does not recognize human IL-1β or mouse IL-1α. In ELISA and other immunoreactive assays, reactivity occurs with rat IL-1β. It recognizes ~10% of non-denatured 31 kDa precursor IL-1β but primarily detects the 17 kDa mature molecule. Denatured 31 kDa precursor IL-1β will also be recognized in immunoblot analysis.

Target Information

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as an inactive 31 kDa pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and is cleaved into the active 17 kDa form via inflammasome activation. Caspase-1 activation mediates this cleavage. IL-1β lacks a classical signal peptide and is secreted via a noncanonical pathway. It signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1α, and its activity can be inhibited by IL-1RA. IL-1β plays a key role in innate host defense and inflammation, and elevated levels are associated with chronic inflammatory conditions. Neutralizing antibodies against IL-1β have potential therapeutic value.
