Target Information

EBI3 (Epstein-Barr virus Induced-3) is a secreted glycoprotein of the hematopoietin receptor family involved in regulating Th2-type immune responses and Th2-mediated tissue inflammation. It forms heterodimers with IL-12 subunits (p28 and p35) to create IL-27 and IL-35, respectively.
EBI3 expression is regulated by TLR signaling via MyD88 and NF-κB in dendritic cells and influences Th cell development. It suppresses IL-17 and enhances IL-10 production, thereby modulating immune responses.
EBI3 may also play a role in controlling tumor metastasis through lung CD8+ T cells, and its deficiency is linked to reduced Th2 cytokine production and altered airway inflammation in asthma.
Targeted deletion of EBI3 protects mice from lung metastasis.
