Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열의 구성원입니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 satellite cell과 비수초성 Schwann cell에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 neural stem cell에서도 높은 발현을 보입니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 유용하며, astrocytic cell에서 유래된 다양한 뇌종양에서도 강하게 발현됩니다. GFAP는 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer cell, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 발견됩니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell로부터 구분하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 이는 중추신경계 astrocyte의 희귀 질환입니다. GFAP 유전자는 alternative splicing을 통해 다양한 isoform을 생성합니다.
