Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상교세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 교세포에서 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포(satellite cell)와 비수초성 슈반세포(non-myelinating Schwann cell)에서도 발현됩니다.
신경줄기세포는 GFAP을 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 성상교세포 표지(marker)로 널리 사용됩니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP이 높게 발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다.
GFAP은 발달 과정 중 성상교세포를 다른 교세포로부터 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 성상교세포 질환)를 유발할 수 있으며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 아이소폼이 생성됩니다.
