Target Information
The IL21R protein is a cytokine receptor for interleukin 21 (IL21) and belongs to the type I cytokine receptor family. It forms a heterodimeric complex with the common gamma-chain, shared by IL2 and IL5 receptors. This receptor mediates IL21-induced proliferation and differentiation of T cells, B cells, and NK cells, activating downstream signaling molecules such as JAK1, JAK3, STAT1, and STAT3. Mouse knockout studies indicate its role in regulating immunoglobulin production. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
