The 90 kDa heat shock protein (Hsp90) family is a highly conserved group of molecular chaperones involved in many cellular processes, especially signal transduction.
TRAP1, a homolog of Hsp90, is associated with multiple proteins and localizes in the mitochondria of mammalian cells. Its mitochondrial targeting sequence suggests TRAP1 functions as a mitochondrial matrix protein.
