IRF5 유전자는 인터페론 조절 인자(IRF) 패밀리에 속하며, 바이러스 매개 인터페론 활성화, 세포 성장 및 분화 조절, 세포자멸사, 면역 반응 조절 등 다양한 생물학적 기능을 수행하는 전사 인자를 암호화합니다. IRF 패밀리 단백질은 트립토판(W) 반복 서열을 포함하는 보존된 N-말단 DNA 결합 도메인을 특징으로 합니다. 다양한 아이소폼을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱 변이체가 존재합니다.
