Target Information
Damaged DNA binding protein (DDB) is a heterodimer composed of two subunits, p127 (DDB1) and p48 (DDB2). The DDB complex participates in the repair of UV-induced DNA damage, binding to cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs).
Mutations in DDB2 are associated with xeroderma pigmentosum group E (XPE), an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by defective nucleotide excision repair, hypersensitivity to sunlight, increased skin cancer risk, and possible neurologic abnormalities.
Additionally, the hepatitis B virus X protein interacts with DDB1, potentially mediating HBx transactivation.
