Target Information

Histo-blood group ABO system transferase (NAGAT) is a member of the glycosyltransferase 6 family and forms the basis of the ABO blood group system.
The ABO system involves three carbohydrate antigens (A, B, and H).

  • A and B individuals express glycosyltransferase activity converting the H antigen to A (via UDP-GalNAc) or B (via UDP-Gal).
  • O individuals lack this activity due to a frame-shift deletion.
    The NAGAT protein localizes to the Golgi apparatus and contains a conserved DXD motif for cofactor binding.
