CaMKII delta belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinase family and the Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase subfamily.

In mammalian cells, the enzyme consists of four chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta, with the delta chain showing distinct isoforms due to alternative splicing.
