This gene encodes a neural/endocrine-specific cytosolic and peripheral membrane protein required for Ca²⁺-regulated exocytosis of secretory vesicles. The protein functions after ATP-dependent priming, which involves the synthesis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (P2).
Alternative splicing generates three distinct isoforms.
